Anybody that’s ever tinkered around with some video files online or with a portable device knows that there are seemingly millions of different formats that you have to deal with. It’s not as simple as “plug and play” like you may have been led to believe. Many devices or file formats are not compatible – sometimes purposely so. Thankfully, there are some video converters out there, such as the AVS Video Converter, that are made to streamline the whole process and put an end to the headache.

Getting started, the AVS Video Converter was a snap. Maybe it goes without saying, but believe it or not there are a lot of programs out there that are pretty much unusable. This one, on the other hand, is very intuitive. Just about everything you need to do is resolved with a handy toolbar and some icons. It may seem like our entire culture is getting dumbed-down with icons, but in a situation like this it’s absolutely imperative, as it makes everything so much easier and use. It really is set up with the novice user in mind. The only hiccup I ran into was when I tried to access the Help files, but that is just a footnote.

Radiotracker Review

All you need to do to convert a file is select the format you want, select the file you want to convert and click. It’s that simple. It will send the file it your “Video” folder in “My Documents” or you can set the program up to dump the converted file into whatever folder you want, which is a plus. Too often, programs such as these want to dump the files into a folder they designate, which leaves you hunting down for the files and/or having to set up your own path. AVS Video Converter streamlines the whole process. There are some issue with the Flash format, but they may be resolved by the time you read this.

AVS Video Converter comes with a built-in DVD burner

One of the coolest things about AVS Video Converter is that it comes with a built-in DVD burner. If you already have one, this isn’t much of a plus, but even then you may have some compatibility issues unless you’re a PC prodigy. With the burner already built into the software here, you can convert files to a DVD format, burn them to a disc, and play them on your DVD player. It doesn’t get any simpler than that. This is a great feature for the older crowd that doesn’t have the time or inclination to fool around trying to learn video conversion. All of this here is accessible with just a few clicks. Simple.

For $59, you get the software and one year of free updates, so I’d say that it’s definitely worth the price considering all that you get. A good DVD burning program will cost you just about the same price and doesn’t come with any of the other features that AVS Video Converter does.

AVS Video Converter Summary

Overall, I’d say that if you are someone who deals with a lot of different video file formats this is the converter for you if you are in the market for one. There are a lot of different video converters out there— some good, some bad—but AVS Video Converter definitely falls into the “good” column. It’s a powerhouse of a program that is easy to use and does exactly what it sets out to do. You won’t waste time trying to figure out how to do what you want; with this software it’s all right there in front of you. You really can’t go wrong with AVS Video Converter. Highly recommended!
