Gp06 asked:
I have a windows XP operating system and have a P4 system.Sometimes svchost.exe process takes up 100K of memory in the task manager. This slows down the whole system. Also when i end svchost.exe process no audio can be played in my computer.Programs like real player and Itunes dont work when i switch off svchost.exe.Plz tell me how to fix this problem.
Also wuauclt.exe keeps on running in the task manager.Even though i have switced off windows automatic update, wuauclt.exe stil keeps on running in the task manager. When i end this process it again comes back and takes up memory space thus slowing down the computer.
I even downloaded Uniblue Registry booster to help me but I have to pay for it.
I want an easy, free way to help me fix this problem.Plz help me with this.

svchost.exe is a process which is needed to run the system.. but there are many cases where a virus can register with the same name in your system and is running it.. run a virus scan.. and check how many svchost.exe process are running.. if they are more.. then it is a virus.. it can be removed by anti virus program only mcafee can remove it but it will come back agian.. the only option is to reinstall OS..
BEST OF LUCK

Hi.
A simple solution to your problem: format your HD.
If it isn’t a worthly solution, try to start your Windows in security mode and turn off all the startup programs and non-Microsoft services.
Reboot your system, and check it out.
Just switching off the automatic update won’t avoid wuauclt.exe from running on your pc. It helps, but doesn’t take so much effects on your system. Try to boot your computer in DOS mode, and delete the wuauclt.exe from the system32 folder. You may reach some error messages. If it happens, try to reinstall the Windows XP.
Or try a even better solution: Windows Vista!

I had the same problem on one machine. To fix this problem you will need to disable Microsoft update and restore it to Windows update. In Internet Explorer go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs -> Manage Add-Ons. Then find MuWebControl Class and disable it. This will restore updates to Windows updates. Make sure you enable automatic updates again and everything should work.
